🧑🎨 Meta gets artsy
In today’s edition of “Meta Clones,” we have CM3Leon, the “best-in-class” art-generation model projected to perform better than DALL-E and Google’s Imagen.
Their blog states, “We believe CM3Leon’s strong performance across a variety of tasks is a step toward higher-fidelity image generation and understanding.”
Here’s why they believe that:
Traditional models rely on a process called “diffusion” to create art, where the model is given a “noisy” image, and the prompts help make the image less noisy and clearer.
Stable Diffusion and other companies have had great success with this, but it is immensely computationally heavy.
CM3Leon, on the other hand, is a transformer model that uses a technique called “attention” to “weigh the relevance of input data such as text or images.”
This technique makes the computations relatively simpler, requiring five times less compute power and a smaller training dataset than previous transformer-based methods.
The model can even follow various prompts to generate captions and answer questions about a particular image.
However, the model is yet to be released. Holding back the model seems like the smart thing to do, given the increased litigation involving copyright materials.

Out of all the AI applications we have seen to date, deep fake technology might be the most dangerous, allowing everything from spreading misinformation to hacking.
To help combat this, Intel Labs has developed a real-time deepfake detection technology, which uses AI to detect synthetic content generated by machines.
How? Instead of looking for artifacts of fakery, the technology focuses on detecting what's real.
The technique, called (take a deep breath) photoplethysmography, focuses on detecting aspects of reality, such as heart rate.
It allows the system to see color changes in the veins due to oxygen content, indicating whether the person is real or fake.
Intel's deep fake detection technology is being implemented across various sectors and platforms, including social media tools, news agencies, and broadcasters, to mitigate the spread of deepfakes and misinformation.
