📦 Amazon wants faster delivery
In this new age of AI, companies are really sticking to their strengths.
Meta dominates Ads. Google has Search. Amazon runs Distribution.
Life lesson alert: play to your strengths and you will go far in life… or something like that.
Anyhoo, let’s focus on Amazon today:
Amazon is utilizing AI to speed up deliveries, using current product data to determine “where—and potentially why—certain items are in demand in certain geographic areas.”
The process, known as "regionalization," allows Amazon to solve the complex problem of where to place inventory. So far, the strategy seems to be working, as Amazon observed that 74% of products shipped to customers are from their regional warehouses.
The company also uses AI to plan delivery routes, account for rogue variables like the weather, and enhance online browsing for customers.
As long as they don’t use Alexa to hear my shower thoughts, I’m all for using AI to reduce delivery times.

🤝 Another Microsoft Collaboration
Another day, another Microsoft AI collab.
SAP and Microsoft have announced a collaboration that will integrate SAP SuccessFactors with Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot in Viva Learning, plus Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service, to help address the skills challenge companies face today.
Using the power of Generative AI, the collaboration hopes to address two challenges:
Streamline recruitment: SAP will leverage the Azure OpenAI Service API to create compelling and highly targeted job descriptions while also helping develop prompts for interviewers with suggested questions based on a candidate’s resume and the job description
Learning: The collaborations will allow employees to use Copilot in Viva Learning to create personalized learning recommendations that align with the employee’s career and development goals.
As the employees complete their training, it will provide companies with an up-to-date view of the skills landscape in their organization.
A non-event for individuals but a big deal for corporations looking to smooth out their recruitment processes and training programs.

💭 Is AI truly understood?

AI is advancing at an insanely rapid clip, so naturally, people are having a hard time completely understanding the technology.
This can be a problem, especially in jobs where reliance on AI is increasing, e.g., law enforcement.
A North Carolina State University study found that despite the increasing implementation of advanced AI technology into policing, the lack of knowledge, understanding, and preparedness from professionals is a cause for concern.
Currently, AI is used for predictive policing, facial recognition, and gunshot detection, playing an essential role in investigations.
Yet there is little understanding of how these technologies work, making it “difficult or impossible for officers to appreciate the limitations and ethical risks of those technologies.”
For AI in law enforcement, a major requirement is understanding the “desirable characteristics in officers” because these characteristics can inform the development of responsible AI that law enforcement will have to use.
The study recommends that policymaking be guided by public consensus and collaborative discussions with law enforcement professionals to ensure that officers are aware of the limits of the AI they might use daily. It also helps officers understand how the AI functions and its decision-making process.
