🤖 Ernie Bot beats ChatGPT on key measures
We’ve officially reached that stage in the AI race where new incumbents are starting to outperform some of the OG’s of the space.
In the latest edition: Baidu claims that its Ernie 3.5 model has outperformed OpenAI's GPT-3.5 in general abilities and Chinese-language capabilities, surpassing even the more advanced GPT-4.
How? According to Baidu, Ernie Bot is trained on “trillions of web pages, tens of billions of search and image data, hundreds of billions of daily voice data, and a knowledge graph of 550 billion facts.”
Ernie Bot aims to become the next must-have app in China's largest internet arena, integrating it across multiple business lines, including cloud computing and smart speakers.
The only thing stifling their growth is the US Sanctions that have been placed on China, hindering Baidu’s ability to get access to world-class GPUs.
Despite that, Baidu has set aside $140 million to invest in OpenAI-like startups, with hopes that its investments in research and development, along with Ernie Bot, will lure users back from all-in-one platforms like Tencent's WeChat.

The LaserWeeder
We love real-life use cases of AI.
Carbon Robotics, a leader in the AI x AgTech revolution, has developed an AI-powered agricultural tool called LaserWeeder that can identify and remove weeds on a large scale, eliminating over 200,000 weeds per hour.
Traditionally, farmers relied on manual labor or chemical herbicides to control weed growth, which is time-consuming, expensive, and harmful to the environment.
However, this new approach offers a promising solution.
The AI-powered robots are programmed to recognize different types of weeds and distinguish them from crops using computer vision technology.
Once identified, the robots utilize precision lasers to zap the weeds, eliminating them while leaving the crops unharmed.
Using a 20-foot-wide device comprised of three rows of 10 lasers, the LaserWeeder:
Uses a "process of thermal energy" at a millimeter accuracy…
…to recognize different types of weeds and distinguish them from crops using computer vision technology.
Once identified, the robots utilize precision lasers to zap the weeds, eliminating them while leaving the crops unharmed.
The LaserWeeder is easy to use, making it "good for labor costs" and a great investment for farmers struggling with labor availability.
Overall: Integrating AI and robotics in agriculture presents a game-changing solution to the age-old weed management issue. Farmers can enhance their efficiency, sustainability, and productivity through AI, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly farming industry.
