📈 ChatGPT UI/UX updates

OpenAI just released a bunch of “small updates” to help improve the ailing ChatGPT.

Here’s the tl;dr:

• Prompt examples will greet you at the start of a new chat session to get you started.

• Once a response is generated, ChatGPT will show you options that can help steer the conversation.

• If you ended your last session on GPT 4, your new session will also start on GPT4—no more short-term memory for ChatGPT.

• Users can input multiple files and perform detailed data analysis through the code interpreter beta.

• Multiple new keyboard shortcuts. Access them by hitting ⌘ (Ctrl) + /

Overall: While there is nothing materially new about the system, making ChatGPT more user-friendly will go a long way in helping with the overall adoption of the program.

And considering OpenAI also applied to trademark “GPT-5,” these changes could just be them fixing bugs to ensure the platform runs smoothly before GPT-5’s arrival.

Big things are coming.

NASA predicts its Earth science missions will produce ~250,000 terabytes of data in 2024. 

To put that into perspective, 250,000 TB of storage can roughly hold :

• The text of over 50 million e-books

• Over 400 billion songs

• Over 500 billion photos

I.e., a LOT of data.

(I could tell you I did the math manually. But since honesty is the best policy or something like that - I used Claude)

To effectively analyze this colossal amount of satellite data, IBM, HuggingFace, and NASA have partnered to create an open-source geospatial foundation model dubbed the "GPT of Earth Sciences."

For you tech junkies:

• IBM used its Watsonx.ai foundational model and trained it on years of NASA's Harmonized Landsat Sentinel-2 satellite data, which captured high-resolution optical imagery over land and coastal regions.

• By fine-tuning the model on labeled data for flood and burn scar mapping, IBM’s team improved the model’s performance by 15%.

• HuggingFace is hosting the model on its platform.

Overall: Ideally, this project helps scientists form the basis for advanced climate and Earth science AI systems. Possible capabilities include monitoring deforestation, forecasting crop yields, and tracking greenhouse gas emissions.

Let’s see if this data finds a way to save the planet.

If you are anything like me, you hate planning holidays.

Enter Trips.

‘Trips’ leverages AI to curate personalized travel itineraries based on user’s preferences and interests. By analyzing user data such as past travel history and reviews, the AI assistant suggests activities, attractions, and dining options that align with individual travel styles.

‘Trips’ aims to:

• Streamline the travel planning process, allowing users to discover new destinations

• Provide users with tailor-made itineraries that cater to their specific interests

• Analyze user preferences and feedback to suggest activities and places that travelers may have never considered

As with every new technology, there is always room for improvement, and Trips is no exception to the rule. Currently, Trips:

• Doesn’t consistently share prices for destinations it recommends

• Doesn’t show travel routes

• Doesn’t allow customization of additional preferences such as budget, dietary restrictions, and other settings such as LGBTQ-friendly, limited mobility, etc.

• Is only available to US users

But fear not - this is just the beta version. Plenty of updates to come.

Hopefully, this will allow me to plan more trips in the future. But no promises.
